Professionally trained as a visual artist, Kent Mikalsen has worked in other fields including visual effects, animation and architectural consulting. He was recently Assistant Professor of Art at the Sage Colleges. His strong graphic style is influenced by his interest in Asian art and his experience as a production designer in animation. He challenges us to see beyond physical reality and explore the possibility of experiencing one that is more vast and deep than the one we inhabit. His paintings are open-ended questions regarding the nature of reality.
